A 58-year-old man is set to appear before magistrates on Monday charged with dozens of sexual offences allegedly committed against five women and children over a 17-year period.
Adebayo Adeyemi, from Dartford in Kent, faces 33 separate charges relating to incidents police say took place across South London between 2002 and 2019.
The case will be heard at Bromley Magistrates Court in South London on 9 February, following charges brought against Adeyemi on Friday, 9 January.
Among the allegations, the defendant faces six counts of rape and 21 counts of sexual assault. Additional charges include one count of attempted rape, one count of assault by penetration, and four counts of indecent assault.
Metropolitan Police confirmed the five alleged victims are all female and are currently receiving assistance from specialist support officers trained to work with survivors of sexual violence.
The investigation leading to the charges has been running for more than four years. Adeyemi was initially taken into custody on 20 October 2020, when he was first arrested in connection with the allegations.
Detectives have been building the case since that first arrest, gathering evidence and taking statements from the complainants about incidents spanning nearly two decades across multiple locations in South London.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that investigative work remains active despite the charges having been filed. Officers from the force’s specialist teams continue to examine evidence and pursue additional lines of inquiry.
The lengthy timeframe covered by the allegations – stretching from the early 2000s through to the end of the 2010s – indicates a complex investigation requiring detailed examination of historical evidence and witness accounts.
Following Monday’s magistrates court hearing, the case is expected to be referred to crown court given the serious nature of the charges and the number of alleged offences involved. Magistrates courts in England and Wales typically send rape cases and other serious sexual offence matters to crown court for trial.
Authorities are encouraging anyone who may have information relevant to the investigation to make contact with the police’s Complex Investigation Team. The Metropolitan Police has provided a dedicated email address for individuals wishing to report information or access support services.
Those with relevant details can reach investigators at CSCMailbox-.ComplexInvestigationTeam@met.police.uk, whether to provide evidence or to receive assistance and guidance about the case.
The defendant will remain subject to court proceedings as the case moves through the criminal justice system in the coming months.
