A 14-year-old boy has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in Woolwich, south-east London, as detectives continue their murder investigation. The victim has been named as Eghosa Ogbebor, though a formal identification has not yet been completed. His family has been notified and is receiving support from specially trained police officers. Emergency services were called to Lord Warwick Street at around 3:40pm on Thursday, 2 April, following reports of a shooting in the area. Paramedics worked to save the boy at the scene, but he was pronounced dead despite their best efforts. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly given the victim’s very young age. Three individuals have since been taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting โ two boys aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man. All three were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody as enquiries continue. Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is heading the Woolwich murder investigation, extended her condolences to the teenager’s loved ones. ‘Our thoughts remain with Eghosa’s family. They are being supported by specialist officers and have asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time,’ she said. DCI Card also acknowledged the widespread unease the incident has created across Woolwich and surrounding neighbourhoods. She confirmed that additional officers have been deployed to the area to provide reassurance to residents, and appealed directly to the public for any information that could assist the inquiry. ‘Although three arrests have been made, this investigation is far from over,’ DCI Card added. ‘Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has video footage from the area, is strongly encouraged to contact us.’ Anyone with information relevant to the Woolwich shooting can contact the Metropolitan Police on 101, quoting reference CAD 4848/2APR. Those who wish to remain anonymous can reach independent charity Crimestoppers at any time on 0800 555 111. As the investigation progresses, authorities are hopeful that further witness accounts will help bring those responsible to justice.
