A dismissed Metropolitan Police firearms officer will appear in court this week charged with 17 serious offences including multiple rapes against a single victim.
Former Inspector John Doyle, 53, who previously worked with the Met’s Specialist Firearms Command, is due at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 11 February.
The 53-year-old was charged by postal requisition on Wednesday 4 February with five counts of rape, one count of assault by penetration, two counts of coercive and controlling behaviour, and two counts of actual bodily harm.
He also faces four counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of misconduct in public office, and one count of possession of extreme pornography.
The alleged offences span from 2012 to 2024 and relate to one victim, according to prosecutors.
Doyle was initially arrested on Monday 24 June 2024 and immediately suspended from duty following his arrest.
The former officer was subsequently dismissed from the Metropolitan Police on Tuesday 10 December 2024 at a hearing held in private due to the ongoing criminal proceedings against him.
