Transport for London has announced plans to deliver 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the entire Tube network, including all stations and tunnels, by the end of 2026.
The ambitious rollout will see the vast majority of the Northern and Metropolitan lines equipped with tunnel coverage by the end of summer 2026, according to TfL. Recent extensions on the Northern line include tunnels from Balham to South Wimbledon, Kennington to Oval, and Euston to Bank on the Bank branch.
As of January 2026, 62 out of 121 underground Tube stations now offer coverage in platforms, corridors, and ticket halls. Euston Square, Cannon Street, and Battersea Power Station recently went live, with King’s Cross St Pancras and Vauxhall scheduled to follow.
Sections of the Circle and District lines between Blackfriars and Cannon Street, plus Notting Hill Gate and Bayswater, are already operational. The Elizabeth line achieved full coverage, including tunnels, by December 2024.
The London Overground between Highbury & Islington and New Cross, along with the DLR, is targeted for completion by the end of 2026. Tests conducted in 2025 confirmed TfL systems can support the full rollout.
“It’s great to see further progress in our goal to introduce high-speed mobile coverage across our Tube network,” said Isabel Coman, Director of Engineering and Asset Strategy at TfL. “We are on a clear path towards having 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the whole network by the end of 2026.”
Deputy Mayor for Transport Seb Dance welcomed the development. “I am delighted to see the promise the Mayor made of delivering 4G and 5G across the London Underground continuing to progress,” he said.
Boldyn Networks is leading the project alongside Three UK, EE, Vodafone, and Virgin Media O2. Work is being carried out overnight during limited engineering hours.
