A murder case is progressing through the courts after a fatal stabbing in Willesden left a 50-year-old woman dead and multiple witnesses traumatised by what they saw unfold on a Saturday afternoon.
Najiib Raytaan, who lives on Harlesden Road, has been remanded in custody following his appearance at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Monday. The 25-year-old is set to face the Old Bailey on Wednesday as the legal proceedings continue.
The victim was discovered with fatal injuries on Pound Lane in the northwest London neighbourhood at approximately 4pm on Saturday. Emergency services attended the scene after receiving reports of a stabbing, but the woman could not be saved and was declared dead where she was found.
Metropolitan Police have confirmed the investigation is not seeking additional suspects, stating that the deceased and the accused had a prior connection. The force has not released further details about the nature of their relationship.
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who oversees policing across Barnet, Brent and Harrow boroughs, addressed the impact on the local area following the fatal incident.
“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, friends and all those who have been affected,” he said, acknowledging that “several members of the public” witnessed the attack.
The case now moves to the Central Criminal Court, commonly known as the Old Bailey, where more serious criminal matters are heard. Wednesday’s hearing will determine the next steps in the legal process.
The death marks another violent incident in the capital, with the victim’s family and the Willesden community left to process the loss. Police presence in the area has provided reassurance to residents following Saturday’s events, though the investigation has now largely concluded with the charge filed.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity as family notification procedures continue.
