British Transport Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following a sexual assault on the London Underground, as new figures reveal a sharp rise in offences across the Tube network.
Officers are seeking a man of medium build and height with a short dark beard in connection with the incident. According to police descriptions, the suspect was wearing a black zip-up jacket, black trousers, black shoes, and a black hat which appeared to conceal baldness or short hair.
The British Transport Police (BTP) have urged anyone with information to come forward by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident reference 791 of 5 December. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
The appeal comes as Transport for London recorded 595 sexual offences across all Tube lines during 2024-25. The Central line saw the highest number of incidents with 124 cases, followed by the Northern line with 104 and the Victoria line with 92.
Between April and October 2025, BTP reported 341 sexual assaults on the Underground network. This represents an average of 2.6 incidents per day, a significant increase from the baseline figure of 1.7 daily assaults recorded between 2015 and 2025.
Authorities are also pursuing a separate suspect wanted for sexually assaulting a woman on a rush-hour train travelling from Stratford to Liverpool Street station. In another recent incident, a sex attacker spat at a woman on a London Underground platform.https://crimestoppers-uk.org/
