A prolific shoplifter has been sentenced to more than eight months in prison after stealing hundreds of pounds worth of goods from supermarkets in Rowley Regis.
Marcus Henry, aged 34, targeted two supermarkets between 26 December and 6 January, stealing items valued at several hundred pounds. The offences also saw him breach a Criminal Behaviour Order issued in May, which had banned him from entering one of the supermarkets.
Police were able to identify Henry through high-quality CCTV footage. Officers arrested him at his home address in Spiral Close, Halesowen, and he was subsequently charged with six counts of theft from shops and one count of breaching a criminal behaviour order.
Henry appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court, where he was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison.
Sergeant Jason Walters, from the South Sandwell Retail Team, highlighted the wider impact of retail crime on the community. “We understand the significant impact this crime has on local businesses, staff and the wider community and recognise the harm it causes, not only financially, but also in terms of safety and confidence,” he said.
He emphasised the force’s commitment to tackling such offences. “This behaviour will not be tolerated, and we will continue to prosecute offenders and utilise the powers available to us in relation to civil and criminal orders.”
Sergeant Walters urged the public to report suspicious activity by calling 101 or using LiveChat on the police website. In emergencies, members of the public should call 999.
Sandwell operates a dedicated retail crime team that focuses on bringing prolific offenders to justice. The team works in partnership with store security, retailers and other agencies to protect local communities.
