Two men have been arrested following a police pursuit that ended when their car collided with a London bus in Islington, after reports of a knifepoint robbery in East London.
Metropolitan Police officers pursued the vehicle on Saturday, January 17, deploying a police helicopter after receiving reports of a robbery in Mile End Road, Whitechapel, earlier the same day.
The chase concluded at around 2:15pm when the car smashed into a route 38 bus on City Road near Angel Tube station in North London. Both the car driver, a man in his 30s, and the bus driver sustained minor injuries in the collision.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated: “At around 2.15pm on Saturday, January 17, a car was in collision with a bus on City Road, Islington. At the time of the collision the car was being pursued by police following reports of a knifepoint robbery in Mile End Road, Whitechapel, earlier the same day.”
The car driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and robbery. The vehicle’s passenger fled on foot but was subsequently apprehended following a chase, facing arrest on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.
No other injuries were reported in the incident, which involved Metropolitan Police ground units and air support during the pursuit from Whitechapel to Islington.
