Four people have been killed and five others injured following a collision between a car and a taxi in Bolton during the early hours of Sunday morning. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the crash occurred on Wigan Road at around 12:45am on January 11, 2026, involving a red Seat Leon and a Citroen C4 Picasso taxi. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the crash occurred on Wigan Road in the Deane area at approximately 00:45 GMT. Transport for London has commenced major roadworks on the A23 Streatham Hill to install protected cycle lanes and dedicated bus lanes along a route identified as an accident hotspot. Detectives from British Transport Police are seeking to identify a man captured in CCTV images following a serious assault on a London Underground train. The incident occurred around 2pm on Friday, 9 January, on an eastbound Piccadilly Line service from South Ealing Underground station. The victim suffered deep cuts to his head after being struck with a wine bottle, which shattered on impact, and required emergency hospital treatment. Morrisons has announced the closure of 103 stores, cafes, pharmacies and florists as part of a significant restructuring programme, with 115 workers at its historic Wakefield bakery facing potential redundancy. London’s electric vehicle owners have lost their long-standing congestion charge exemption, with new fees taking effect this month following concerns over rising traffic levels in the capital.
