Londoners planning to travel across the capital this Saturday and Sunday are being urged to check their routes in advance after Transport for London confirmed a wave of closures and service reductions affecting the Underground, Overground, Elizabeth line, DLR and tram network.
The most significant disruption affects the Metropolitan line, where no trains will run between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Chesham, Amersham and Watford from Thursday through to Sunday evening. The closure, caused by signalling improvement works, also knocks out all Chiltern Railways services between Aylesbury Vale Parkway and Marylebone via Amersham. Rail replacement buses are in operation to all affected stations, though journey times will be considerably longer than normal.
On the Northern line, southbound trains are not stopping at West Finchley until late February due to footbridge maintenance work. Passengers needing to head south are advised to travel north to Woodside Park and change platforms for a southbound service. Those requiring step-free access should instead travel to High Barnet to make the same switch, or use local buses. Anyone caught at West Finchley who needs to exit there should continue to Finchley Central and return northbound.
The DLR faces a full weekend shutdown between Bank and Tower Gateway, and between Poplar and West India Quay, with track maintenance the cause. Tube and Overground connections are the recommended alternatives.
On the Overground, the Windrush line will have no service between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction until 10:15am on Sunday morning. Services will divert to Battersea Park in the meantime, with local buses also available for affected passengers.
Elizabeth line passengers face a more complex picture on Sunday, with no trains running between Paddington and Ealing Broadway until 7:45am, and no service between Paddington and Abbey Wood or between Whitechapel and Stratford until 11:15am. Tube, Overground, DLR and bus routes are all advised as alternatives. Late Saturday night travellers should also note that trains will not stop at Acton Main Line, Hanwell or West Ealing after 11:45pm.
Separately, a two-week engineering programme on the South London tram network remains in effect until Wednesday, February 25. Track renewal works at Sandilands Junction mean no trams are running between East Croydon and Beckenham Junction, Elmers End or New Addington. Replacement buses are serving all affected stops with the exception of Lebanon Road, which sits less than 500 metres from the works site. The Wimbledon to East Croydon route continues to operate normally.
TfL has advised all passengers to plan their journeys ahead of travel and allow additional time throughout the weekend.
