Commuters across London face widespread disruption this weekend as major engineering works close key sections of the Underground and Overground networks.
Transport for London has confirmed extensive closures for track maintenance on Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February, with the Central line bearing the brunt of the disruption. There will be no service between Bethnal Green and Epping, Woodford, Hainault or Newbury Park on both days.
The Night Tube will also be suspended east of Liverpool Street on Friday and Saturday nights.
The closures will particularly affect Leyton Orient supporters travelling to Saturday afternoon’s match against Port Vale. The disruption coincides with major upgrade works at Leyton station, which has received a £13.7 million cash injection from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
During the closure, engineers will lift pre-fabricated overbridge sections and steelwork into position at Leyton station. Works also include 1.5km of rail grinding between Leytonstone and Woodford via the Hainault Loop, alongside tamping at points and crossings.
Three London Overground lines face part-closures over the weekend. Network Rail track work means the Mildmay line will have no service between Camden Road and both Richmond and Shepherd’s Bush on Saturday and Sunday.
The Windrush line will see no service between Sydenham and Crystal Palace on Sunday due to Network Rail maintenance. Southern Railway services or local buses are recommended as alternatives.
On the Weaver line, there will be no service between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town, Cheshunt or Chingford until 10.15am on Sunday.
The DLR will have no service between Tower Gateway and Shadwell throughout Sunday.
Elizabeth line passengers face a delayed start on Sunday, with no trains between Paddington and Ealing Broadway until 7.45am. A reduced service will then operate throughout Sunday between Paddington and both Maidenhead and Heathrow, including Heathrow Terminal 4.
Beyond the TfL network, major disruption is expected at Kings Cross due to planned upgrades. No trains will run from the station, severely impacting Thameslink, Great Northern, Lumo and LNER services. Passengers are advised to use alternative routes via London Euston for northbound services, Thameslink to Bedford, or Greater Anglia to Hertford East and Cambridge North.
Services between Clapham Junction and London Waterloo will be reduced due to signalling works, with Queenstown Road station closed on both Saturday and Sunday.
TfL has advised passengers to use alternative Tube routes, London buses, or replacement bus services where available. Tickets will be valid on alternative routes during the disruption.
