Around 70 firefighters and ten fire engines have been deployed to a fire on Hall Lane in Chingford, east London, after part of the roof of an end-of-terrace shop collapsed.
The building, which has residential flats above the ground-floor commercial premises, was struck by the blaze with firefighters from the London Fire Brigade responding in significant numbers to tackle it.
Part of the roof structure has already given way, raising concerns for the safety of the upper floors where flats are located.
Residents in the surrounding area have been advised to avoid the vicinity as road closures are in place around the scene. The London Fire Brigade confirmed the closures are in effect while crews work to bring the fire under control.
No information on casualties or the cause of the fire has been released at this stage. The incident is ongoing.
