A 26-year-old man was shot multiple times and killed in north London on Saturday night, with Metropolitan Police detectives now leading a murder investigation following what witnesses described as a rapid and targeted attack.
The victim was sitting inside a white Nissan Juke on Chalton Street in Camden when a suspect arrived on a bicycle, fired several shots, and left the same way. Despite the efforts of paramedics who attended the scene, the man was pronounced dead at the location. His family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.
Officers were called to reports of gunshots at approximately 11pm on Saturday 28 March. CCTV footage, reviewed as part of what police described as fast-paced enquiries in the hours that followed, helped establish the sequence of events and provided investigators with an account of how the suspect arrived at and departed from the scene.
No arrests have been made. The investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who acknowledged the anxiety the incident was likely to cause among local residents. She confirmed that her team was working to identify the attacker and said that any information held by members of the public could prove crucial to the investigation’s progress.
The killing is the latest in a series of fatal shootings to have occurred across the capital in recent months, and is expected to draw renewed attention to gun crime in London.
