Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian sustained a serious head injury in a collision with a car in south London.
The Metropolitan Police received a call shortly after 21:00hrs on Monday, 5 January, reporting the incident on Brighton Road, close to the junction with St Augustines Avenue in Croydon.
Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service, which treated the 41-year-old male pedestrian at the roadside before transferring him to hospital, where he remains under care.
The driver of the car, an adult male, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.
Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge, from the Metropolitan Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, is leading the investigation. He stated: “Our investigation is ongoing and we are in the process of collecting dash cam footage, CCTV and any other information that will help us with our enquiries.”
The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is particularly interested in obtaining recordings from dash cameras or CCTV systems that may have captured the incident or surrounding circumstances.
Detective Sergeant Groombridge added: “I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident but has not yet spoken to police to contact us as soon as possible.”
Members of the public who were present in or passing through the area at the time of the collision are urged to come forward with information.
