The collision occurred on Honeypot Lane in Stanmore at around 08:30hrs on Sunday, 25 January. The child was treated at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance before being transferred to hospital.
The driver, a 28-year-old man, stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been interviewed under caution and released on bail.
Metropolitan Police officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the serious incident. They are particularly interested in receiving footage of the black Volkswagen Golf GTI involved in the collision between 08:15hrs and 08:35hrs on Sunday morning.
Detective Sergeant Nush Puvitharan, from the Met’s Roads and Transport Unit, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with this young boy and his loved ones at this very difficult time.”
He added: “A family had their lives turned upside down during a Sunday morning walk and our team are now working around the clock to piece together what happened. It’s imperative we gather as much evidence as we can to ensure we can build the full picture of the incident, and are encouraging anyone who can help to come forward and talk to us.”
