Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at a shop in Knightsbridge during which staff and members of the public were threatened with weapons including machetes.
Police were called at 10:53hrs on Tuesday, 20 January, to reports of a robbery in progress on Knightsbridge. Officers arrived at the scene within minutes.
Six suspects wearing motorcycle helmets attended the store. A number of them entered the premises and threatened those inside with weapons, including machetes. A moped was also used to gain entry to the shop.
The offenders made off on four mopeds after stealing a number of high-value watches. They left a stolen moped behind inside the store. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Scott Mather from the Met’s Flying Squad, who is leading the investigation, acknowledged the concern caused by the robbery. “This robbery was carried out in a busy part of London, and we understand the alarm it has caused,” he said.
He explained the specialist nature of the investigation. “The Flying Squad specialises in tracking down organised robbers who use violence and intimidation, and our officers are working to identify and arrest those responsible.”
Detective Chief Inspector Mather emphasised the swift response and ongoing work. “Officers were on scene within minutes and investigators are working at pace to piece together the offenders’ movements. We are determined to find those involved and bring them to justice as swiftly as possible.”
There have been no arrests at this stage.
