Man Arrested After 74-Year-Old Woman Found Dead At East London Home
A 44-year-old man is being held on suspicion of murder after a pensioner was found dead at a residential address in Newham.
The woman, aged 74, was discovered at a property in St George’s Square, E7, on Tuesday afternoon. Police were alerted to the death at 12:36pm on 17 February and officers rushed to the scene where they attempted first aid, but she was pronounced dead.
The suspect was arrested immediately at the location and remains in police custody while the investigation continues. Authorities believe the man was known to the victim, and have described the incident as isolated.
Chief Superintendent Dan Card, who leads policing in Newham, said officers are working with care and determination to understand exactly what happened. “This is an incredibly sad incident in which a woman has lost her life, and our hearts go out to her family and friends,” he said.
The woman’s family have been notified of her death and are receiving support from specialist officers during this difficult time.
A crime scene has been established at the St George’s Square address while detectives carry out their enquiries. Officers are continuing to gather evidence as part of the murder investigation.
