Bromley Man To Appear In Court Today Over Fatal Croydon Stabbing That Left 22-Year-Old Dead
A 28-year-old man is due before magistrates this morning after being charged with murder following a stabbing in south London that claimed the life of a young man earlier this month.
Ellis Anim-Annor, of Belgravia Gardens, Bromley, will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 19 February, in connection with the death of Lorik Abazi, 22, who was fatally wounded in the early hours of Sunday 15 February.
Emergency services were called to Hesterman Way in Croydon just after 1am following reports of a stabbing. Officers arrived alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service to find three men with stab wounds. Abazi was rushed to hospital but died despite the efforts of medical staff. His family are being supported by specially trained officers. A second man who sustained life-threatening injuries during the incident was discharged from hospital on Wednesday and subsequently released on bail.
Since the incident, detectives have made a total of 10 arrests as part of their investigation. Three people were initially detained on suspicion of murder on the afternoon of the attack — two women aged 25 and Anim-Annor, who has since been formally charged. Both women were bailed, though one was rearrested on Wednesday on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and bailed again pending further investigation.
Four further individuals — two men and two women, all aged 21 or 22 — were arrested on suspicion of affray on the day of the incident. The majority have since been bailed. A separate 21-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday also on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and bailed pending enquiries.
As of Thursday morning, two further women, both aged 22, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in custody.
Detectives continue to appeal for information from the public. Anyone with relevant information, CCTV footage or dash cam recordings is urged to submit material through the Major Incident Public Portal online, or to call police on 101 quoting CAD 511/15FEB. Anonymous tip-offs can be made through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
