What investigators know about the killing of Finbar Sullivan
Scotland Yard has issued a public appeal for a young woman believed to have recorded crucial mobile phone footage in the moments leading up to the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old man in one of north London’s best-known beauty spots.
Finbar Sullivan died at the scene after officers were called to the viewpoint at Primrose Hill at 6.41pm on 7 April. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service worked alongside police to try to save him, but he was pronounced dead from stab wounds shortly after their arrival.
A second man, also believed to be in his twenties, was discovered a short distance away on Regent’s Park Road suffering from knife injuries. He was taken to hospital, where his condition has since been described as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.
Why the missing footage matters
Detectives say the woman they wish to trace was filming an altercation in the park shortly before Sullivan was attacked, and that the recording on her phone could prove central to reconstructing what happened. She is described as either a teenager or in her early adult years, and was seen wearing a pink vest, denim shorts and black trainers.
Officers have been at pains to stress that she is not suspected of any wrongdoing and is being treated as a significant witness rather than a person of interest.
Detective Inspector Andy Griffin, who is leading the inquiry, said his team was pursuing “several urgent lines of enquiry to establish why Fin tragically lost his life.” He added: “I believe this woman’s account of events, as well as the video she captured, will provide vital evidence. To reiterate, she has not committed any offence but we are urging her, or anyone who may know her, to come forward and assist our investigation. We need to speak to her as soon as possible.”
An investigation still in its early stages
No arrests have so far been made, and the Metropolitan Police say enquiries are ongoing. The force is asking anyone with information, including the witness herself, to make contact through its major incident portal or by calling 101 quoting reference CAD 6448/07Apr. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
