Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a woman was discovered dead at a residential address in one of London’s most affluent neighbourhoods, with two men arrested and released on bail as enquiries progress.
Officers were called to Lucan Place in Chelsea, SW3, at around 12:23pm on Thursday 12 February following concerns raised about a woman at the property. Police attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although formal identification is yet to take place, the victim has been named locally as Julia Taylor, 57. Her family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
The investigation moved quickly in the days that followed. A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday 16 February, followed by a 56-year-old man detained on the same grounds the following day. Both have since been released on bail while detectives continue to build their case.
Detective Inspector Emma Sharp, who is leading the investigation, said officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Taylor’s death while continuing to support her family. She confirmed the two arrests but stressed that enquiries are ongoing, and appealed directly to the public for any information that could assist the investigation.
Anyone with details relevant to the case is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference CAD 3226 of 12 February. Those wishing to remain anonymous can reach the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
